Avaya Media Server S8700 PBX model is an industrial server (2U 19 "), running on industrial operating system Linux (RedHat distribution kit), on which Avaya Communication Manager operates as an application. This server implements a distributed architecture, in which the control central processor is located outside the port shelves.
S8700 Media Server in Multi Connect configuration is the next step in the exolution of the DEFINITY G3r model. S8700 Server provides increased capacity and throughput compared to the older model of the DEFINITY family. It has new remote office features, and uses new standard protocols and business operating environment while maintaining high reliability and versatility of the system.
Unlike the S8500 media server, S8700 media server allows for hot standbys. The basic version contains two S8700 Media servers (Duplex Reliability configuration). One of the servers works, while the other is in hot reserve. There is constant synchronization of software settings and contents of the running memory between the two servers. Thus, when there is an emergency, control is switched from one server to another with no loss in active connections. Besides Duplex Reliability, there can be High and Critical Reliability configurations in which control connections and voice intraoffice communication channels are reserved.
Port and auxiliary cards are controlled via the control cards (IP Server Interface - IPSI) installed on each port network. The port networks consist of universal G650 media gateway, designed for installation of TN cards. Architecturally, the network consists of two servers, and 1..64 port networks (each port network consists of 1..5 G650 cabinets). All connections (both control and intraoffice voice connections) between the server and the port networks are established using IP transport technology (existing or newly built IP network), or using the Center Stage Switch (CSS switch used in the SI and R models), or using ATM network.
In addition to G650, the S8700 server, which supports SCC1, MCC1, G350, and G700 media gateways, is recommended as a gateway in new systems because of its versatility.
